My name is Jan van Gorkum and I’m a freelance filmmaker from the Netherlands. I work as a director, writer and editor. In 2010, I graduated as a filmmaker from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), where I studied Audiovisual Media.
I have written and directed several award winning short films that have been shown at film festivals around the world. I have also worked on various film projects as an editor and assistant editor. Currently, I’m developing my first feature film: The Cleaner. A horror-comedy that’s being developed with Dutch production company House of Netherhorror. In 2017 the project was presented at Frontières in Canada, where it received a lot of great buzz.
Since I have a broad interest in film genres and formats, my work is very diverse and consists of various genres, ranging from dark comedy to family film. However, I do have a soft spot for the genres dark comedy, thriller, fantasy and horror. In addition to making movies, I’m currently writing my first book, an adventurous and quirky fantasy book called Winged Darkness.
Examples of my films are the dark comedies Spelletjesavond (Game Night) and De Kleinzoon (The Grandson), and the short thriller Tussenstop (Rest Stop). More info about the films can be found here.
Since 2011, I produce my movies with my own company Zuiderlicht Film. Besides developing my own productions, I also make commissioned work.
